Project BAYIS
Introduction
According to the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), there were approximately 12 million stray cats and dogs in the streets of the country in 2019 (Baluyot, 2022). It is undeniable that animals are present everywhere people go. People tend to get mad at the owners’ negligence and animals being lost from their homes, little did they know, those streets are already their home.
why are there homeless animals?
It is said that it is not an event with random occurrences instead, it is due to the irresponsible pet ownership, pet owners not neutering their pets, and people buying to breed and not to foster shelter and rescue them (STRAYS: Why Are There Stray Cats and Dogs?, n.d.). The number of strays is getting out of control. Its overpopulation does not match with the organizations' capability and knowledge on pet handling and shelter (Enriquez, 2022). The requisite of funds to the expert organizations or additional knowledge to the other groups inclined has to be addressed.

CARA, one of the animal protection organizations, has long been advocating for “Adopt, Don’t Shop” and “Kapon, Hindi Tapon”. The goal is to find a new adopter who is possibly emotionally attached to the animals. These people are the kind who are trusted to take care of the animals in the long run (Baluyot, 2022).
In conclusion, the lack of knowledge and resources of the other organizations toward stray animals influenced fellow kinds to gain more support from the people fond of them. The must to share a thorough understanding and apprehension in proper ownership is the driving force of each and other built and to be built-in institutions.
The BAYIS Initiative
Our Mission
To make a significant impact on the current condition of stray animals in the country by raising awareness, contributing monetary donations, and inspiring others to believe in our advocacy. The steps that BAYIS takes to fulfill its goal are carried out by the use of sustainable means and most especially through digital platforms.
Our vision
BAYIS Brilliant Advocates of the Youth Integrated for Stray Animals envisions a community where the number of strays are lessened, and who values the rights and welfare of stray animals, being willing to volunteer and serve for the betterment of their conditions.
Our Purpose
In our country, it’s typical to see filthy cats lying on garbage piles and mange-ridden dogs limping down the street. We cannot deny that animals such as cats and dogs rely on us, humans, to satisfy their fundamental needs such as food, water, shelter, and love. However, many animals in our country do not have a guardian to look after them or even a warm place to snuggle up at night. These animals are what we refer to as "strays."
Many people regard stray animals as a nuisance. However, these are actual living, feeling beings who live extremely violent and unpleasant lives, and it's largely because of what we, as people, have done. Our organization's goal is to raise awareness about the conditions that stray animals face. BAYIS aims to use social media platforms in order to raise awareness and provide information regarding the situation of stray animals and the problems they face. The project also serves as a donation drive, and all proceeds collected will be donated to animal welfare organizations as a way of supporting the movement against animal homelessness.
